MEDIA RELEASE - PENRITH CITY COUNCIL

Council supports equity

June 17 2011

Penrith City Council continued to support equity of access to people of all abilities when it proudly hosted an Association of Consultants in Access Australia (ACAA) NSW meeting at the Civic Centre.

Penrith City Deputy Mayor Jim Aitken OAM said some 40 access consultants met to discuss a wide range of topics on hearing augmentation.

“These consultants are experts in their field and their great work makes an incredibly positive difference to many peoples’ lives,” Councillor Aitken said.

“Hosting this meeting is yet another example of Council’s leading efforts to make our City a more inclusive and accessible City as outlined in our Penrith Inclusion Plan for the City.

“The development of the plan was guided by the advice and support of Council’s Access Committee.”

Some of the topics covered at the ACAA meeting included captioning, emergency alarms, signage and the role of the National Relay Service, to name a few.
